Aim: to investigate the effect of H²o² concentration on the activity of the enzymes catalase. Background info Enzyme is a protein molecule, which can be defined as biological catalyst. It is used to speed up the rate of reaction, but remain unchanged at the end of the reaction. Each enzyme has a specific shape of active site that allow certain substrate to bind into it. In the reaction, substrate binds into the active site of enzyme. This is a lock and key theory. The enzyme is a lock and the substrate is a key. However, It is not enough for the substrate just to fit into an active site, it need an attractive force to keep it in place. The attractive forces are: * Electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged groups * Hydrogen bonding * Permanent dipole-permanent dipole forces * Instantaneous dipole-induced dipole forces Also there is a minimum amount of energy which...
