Investigating energy when fuels burn Aim To find out which fuel releases the most amount of energy when burnt. I will use five fuels: Methanol- CH OH, Ethanol- C H OH, Propanol- C H OH, Butanol- C H OH, Pentanol- C H OH. Variables * Type of fuel- input * Mass of fuel- constant * Volume of water- constant * Height of can above wool- constant * temperature change of the water- output * Way of burning fuel- constant * Type of wool- constant My input variable will be the type of fuel I use and the output variable will be the temperature change of the water. To make my investigation a fair test I will control the mass of water because if the mass changes then the fuels will burn for a different amount of time therefore would have more or less time to heat the water.
