CHEMISTRY COURSEWORK- ENERGY CHANGE IN ALCOHOLS AIM: The aim of this experiment is to find out which of the five alcohols im using would produce the most energy when burnt. The alcohols that I am using are: * Ethanol * Methanol * Pentanol * Butanol * Propanol Any form of burning is an exothermic reaction; this means that heat is given out as a result. This means that the reactants energy is higher than that of the product. Alcohols react with oxygen in the air to form water and carbon dioxide. CH 3OH ---------) CO2 + H 20 How is the energy going to change for all five alcohols? This is the main equation for all alcohols. This one shows methanol.
