Aim: To determine the molarity in potato tubers Definition of Osmosis Osmosis is a special kind of diffusion involving water molecules, and occurs when a partially permeable membrane separates two solutions. It is, therefore, the passage of these water molecules from the solution of high water concentration (weaker solution) to the other solution of low water concentration (stronger solution) through the semi-permeable membrane. Before osmosis After osmosis Semi-permeable membrane The diagram above shows the diffusion of water molecules from the weaker solution to the stronger solution. The tiny pores in the membrane allow small water molecules to pass through rapidly, while the large solute molecules are too big to pass through the partially permeable membrane.
