(Web1) It is one of the many metals that is found in the transition elements, but unlike most of the traditional elements you rarely hear of the metal tantalum, Here then is a presentation of this obscure metal tantalum. Tantalum is a shiny silvery blue coloured metal which is heavy dense and malleable when pure (CD) Three of the main properties of tantalum are: * It is ductile * It is an extremely good conductor of heat and electricity * It is highly corrosive resistant. At 150º C tantalum is almost completely immune to chemical attacks and can only be attacked by hydrofluoric acid, acidic solutions containing the fluoride ion and free sulphur trioxide.
