For my investigation I will be finding out the amount of energy given off by different types of alcohol when ignited. To do this I will be burning the alcohol in a small glass burner, with the flame coming of the burner I will heat a set amount of water in a metal can for two minutes. After the two minutes is up I will extinguish the flame and record the rise in temperature of the water. I will also record the difference in mass of the alcohol after the two minutes. I will use five different alcohols in this investigation with a wide range of structures to hopefully produce five valid results.
