Cantilever Deflection Preliminary Work The more weight there is on the ruler, The more deflection there is. Prediction I predict, that as the mass increases, the deflection of the ruler will increase. I think this because, the more mass on the ruler, will result to more weight, therefore there would be a larger force acting down on the ruler, causing an unbalanced moment, which will cause the ruler to deflect. Due to my preliminary results, I have realised t hat, if I double the mass on the ruler, the ruler will almost double in deflection. Therefore, if I were to plot a graph from my results, I would find that I would get a straight-line graph going through the origin, as the ruler deflects in proportion. Variables/Factors * The mass on the ruler - I am going to increase this, starting from 0.1kg, increasing it in steps of 0.1kg, up to 1.0kg. * The deflection of the ruler...
