An Experiment to Determine the Atomic Mass of a Metal X Aim The aim of this experiment is determine the atomic mass of the unknown metal X. We will do this by following the instructions laid out on the method sheet. We also hope that by determining the atomic mass and referring to the periodic table we will be able to actually to determine which element metal X actually is. Hypothesis We cannot really have a hypothesis for this experiment, but I think that it is worth saying that the metal X looks like magnesium ribbon and we might expect that metal X to will have an atomic mass of 24.3 as this is the atomic mass of magnesium. Safety Precautions As there was HCl involved in this experiment and HCl is corrosive we must be sure to wear safety goggles at all times throughout the experiment.
