To investigate the changes to copper electrodes during the electrolysis of copper sulphate Plan For this investigation I shall carry out a simple electrolysis, using copper electrodes. From what I know about electrolysis, I know that one electrode will gain copper ions, and one will lose copper ions. I will therefore weigh the electrodes, carry out the electrolysis for a certain amount of time and after it is finished, weigh the electrodes again and see how much mass has been gained/lost. I will set up electrolysis, with the following apparatus: * Power pack * Variable resistor * Ammeter * 2 copper electrodes * 50ml copper sulphate in beaker * Leads and crocodile clips My set up will look like the diagram below: Method Firstly I shall set up the electrolysis as above, weighing and recording the weight of both electrodes. I shall decide on a time for the electrolysis and set a stop clock going to time it. When the time...
