Experiment 32 Aim: To determine the concentration of an approximately 0.1 mol L-1 solution of HCl by titrating it against a standard solution of Na2CO3. Abstract: All indicators change colour at different pH levels. Therefore, when finding the equivalence point in a titration, it is necessary to use indicators that change at around the pH level that one is seeking to find so that one knows when the equivalence point has been reached. Therefore, because the solution at the equivalence point in the reaction: 2H+(aq) + CO32-(aq) --> H2O(l) + CO2(g), has a pH of around 3.5, it is necessary to find an indicator which changes colour in this pH region.
