Task Drop a small piece of magnesium into dilute hydrochloric acid and see what happens. Magnesium dissolves in hydrochloric acid and makes magnesium chloride and hydrogen. Mg + 2HCl --> MgCl + H2 We want you to investigate this reaction and find out weather using acid of different concentrations has an effect on the rate of reaction. Problems * To record the speed of reaction I will time how long it will take for the magnesium to dissolve into the solution * There are other factors, apart from the concentration of the acid, which might effect the rate of reaction. I will need to keep these constant to keep my experiment a fair test. These will include * The length of the magnesium * The temperature of the solution * I only have one hour in which I will have to complete my experiments. Therefore, preliminary results will need to be taken to give a rough idea of how long...
