Extraction of copper from ore Malachite Purpose of Activity We are going to separate as much copper from its ore, we are going to Malachite to get as much copper as we can get. Malachite is an ore that is found in rocks, we use the Malachite to get copper because Malachite is a compound of copper. Malachite contains the elements of copper, carbon and oxygen joined together. You can separate the copper from the Malachite by reducing it with carbon powder. We are going to use a Redox reaction to separate the copper from Malachite. Chemical reaction A redox reaction is when something is reduced and something else gets oxidised. This is where the reaction gets its name. In the reaction that we are doing the copper is being reduced and the carbon is being oxidised. Cu co3 = 1 mole of Cu 63.3 + 12+(3x6) g =123.5g We are using 2.5g to so...
