Distinguishing Isomers In this experiment we will aim to identify three isomers of the formula C6H10O2, two of the isomers are esters and one is a Ketone. The structural formula of each isomer which I will label A, B, and C for later experiments is as follows. A) B) C) The first test we must do is to distinguish between the ketone (A) and the two esters (B+C). The bromine water test will determine which ones are the esters and which one is the ketone by allowing us to identify the C=C bond. If the ketone is tested there will be no change in the colour and if it is either of the esters the bromine water will turn clear.
