The disappearing cross Introduction I will determine whether changing the concentration of a reactant affects the rate of reaction. In this experiment I will change the concentration of Sodium Thiosulthate. Sodium Thiosulthate + Hydrochloric acid --- Sulphur + Sodium Chloride + Sulphur Dioxide + Water Na2 S2 O2 (aq) + 2HCl (aq) --- S (s) + 2NaCl (aq) + SO2 (s) + H2O (l) My dependent variable This is the one I will measure. This will be the time it takes for the cross to 'disappear'. My Independent variable This is the one I will change. These will be the concentration of Sodium Thiosulthate. My controlled variables These are the ones I shall keep the same. These will be the concentration of the Hydrochloric acid, the person that judges when the cross disappears, the temperature of the room, the amount of mixing, the volumes of the Water and Hydrochloric acid and finally the strength of the Sodium Thiosulthate and the...
