An investigation to see how marble chips react with acid. In the stomach, if there is too much acid it causes indigestion. One ingredient that can be used against it is calcium carbonate, which neutralises the excess hydrochloric acid. This investigation is to see the neutralisation of stomach acid by marble chips. Hydrochloric + calcium carbonate Calcium chloride + water + carbon dioxide Aim: To investigate one factor that affects the rate of reaction between marble chips and hydrochloric acid. Apparatus 2g marble chips 50 ml hydrochloric acid Conical flask Delivery tube Gas syringe Safety goggles Stopwatch Beaker Safety As we will be handling with acid, we are going to wear safety goggles during the experiment.
