An Investigation to Assess the Effect of Changing Acid Concentration on the Rate of Reaction with Marble Chips Aim: The aim of this investigation is to see which concentrations of acid produces 50cm3 of Carbon Dioxide the fastest when reacting with marble chips. Prediction: I predict that the 50cm of Carbon Dioxide will be more quickly if there is high concentration of Hydrochloric acid as the stronger the concentration of the acid the faster the marble chips will react. I came to this prediction because the more concentrated the acid the quicker it will break down the Calcium Carbonate to form Carbon Dioxide, water and Calcium Chloride. The following equation shows this: 2HCL + CaCO CaCl + H O + CO I expect, from my results to obtain a graph like the one below.
