Compounds, Solutions and Separation Techniques In this piece of work I will look into and understand what solutions are, insolubility and solubility, the difference between an element, a compound and a mixture, I will find out and investigate into the periodic table and look into different separation techniques used to separate solutions and mixtures. Elements, Compounds and Mixtures Elements, compounds and mixtures are all different types of substances. An element is a substance in its purest form, and cannot be simplified any further; elements are the framework of all substances and are shown on the periodic table of elements. There is no way of cancelling down or simplifying an element, it is completely pure already. Compounds are substances which are made up of 2 or more elements, compounds are chemically combined.
