A Method To Determine The Concentration Of Calcium Hydroxide Using A Neutralisation Titration With Hydrochloric Acid This experiment will determine the concentration of calcium hydroxide by using a neutralisation titration with hydrochloric acid. This is done by adding an indicator (phenolphthalein) to the calcium hydroxide then observing the colour change. Apparatus Volumetric Flask 500cm³ Graduated Pipette 25cm³ Burette Pipette Filler Conical Flask Clamp Stand White Tile Phenolphthalein (indicator) Calcium Hydroxide (250cm³ with 1gdm¯ ³) Hydrochloric Acid (2.00dm¯ ³) Distilled Water The equation for this reaction is: - Limewater + Hydrochloric Acid Calcium Chloride + Water Ca (OH) + 2HCl CaCl + H O Calcium Hydroxide is also known as limewater. There is 250cm³ of Calcium Hydroxide supplied, which is of approximately 1gdm¯ ³. Diagram There is also an unlimited supply of Hydrochloric Acid which is 2.00mol¯ ³ but this concentration is too strong so it has to be diluted to a suitable concentration. Ideally the amount of HCl being mixed with the limewater would...
