(20 marks) Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Abraham Maslow developed the Hierarchy of Needs model and the Hierarchy of Needs theory remains valid today for understanding human motivation, management training, and personal development. His research was not focused principally on people in the work environment. He also focused on trying to recognize and categorise the main needs that humans have. He synopsised these needs in the hierarchy that can be seen below. Physical needs- Physiological needs are those required to sustain life, such as: * air * water * nourishment * sleep According to Maslow's theory, if such needs are not satisfied then one's motivation will arise from the quest to satisfy them.
