Describing the Main Theories of Motivation Frederick Herzberg believes that such 'satisfiers' and dissatisfies' in the work place include good labour relations, working conditions, acceptable wages and benefits and job security. These factors are known as the 'hygiene' theory includes the job's environment. He states that these are not motivators for people while at working, Frederick's theory says that these factors do not lead to higher levels of motivation but without them there is dissatisfaction with their position. The second section of Herzberg's motivation theory involves what people actually do in their job. Factors that motivate a workforce include possessing an interesting and challenging job, recognition internally and externally, responsibility and promotion. Including the sense of achievement and success consistently, some sort of growth and advancement internally and a general interest in the actual profession in hand.
