By "new work structure ", BMW understands a move away from classic methods of division of labour, introducing integrating activities. The core is formed by independent groups with clearly defined tasks. Each group contains people with the necessary expertise and sense of responsibilities. The NAS scheme is intended to improve the quality of the products, as well as an increase in job satisfaction. This will lead to an increase in productivity, which in turn assures the company's competitiveness. The new structures make better use of the individual employees knowledge and experience, and help them advance their careers and their personal qualities. The employees are more closely involved in decision-making processes, since decisions are made at group level. There is improved co-operation between those who make plans and those who carry them...
