(20 marks) China's economic controls have changed dramatically over the past twenty or so years. For example, there have been developments of TVE's (Township and Village Enterprises) These joint ventures account for 35% - 40% of economic growth. TVE's are rural enterprises which are owned and run by towns, villages or households. An example of a TVE is Ma Bei. Hi - tech industries such as open cast mines have made real profits in this area. Higher wages in TVE areas lead to the "8 big new things." This includes home ownership, a car, holidays etc. TVE's have helped to establish a market economy.
