Reconstruction: Further Problems People usually view the Civil War as an absolute success but most are unaware of the obstacles that came about soon after. Former slaves still encountered racism and inequality, and at the same time had to deal with the instability of the nation due to the damaging effects of the war. Some problems were conquered with the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments, but in the end, the extent of problems due to reconstruction outweighed its successes. While reconstruction had some triumphs, ultimately, it was a failure, especially for the freedmen. Though not many events happened economically, it was the root for most reconstruction dilemmas. While the Northern economy was booming after the Civil War, the South had taken its toll.
