The ten leading car producers such as Ford, General Motors and Toyota supply approximately 80% of the world market. Japan is the world's largest producer, making one quarter of the world total. The motor industry is mainly located within developed countries, with the available technology and research, although there is an expansion of motor vehicle industries in developing countries such as South Korea. This is because 90% of the world market is in MEDC's, the market in LEDCS's is likely to remain small except in those advancing newly industrialised countries (NIC's), for example, in South East Asia because of the available inexpensive labour although the market expansion is hindered due to low incomes and poor infrastructure.
