What is the evidence of evolution? Was Darwin right? Darwin's theory of evolution was called natural selection. Darwin's theory was, that species that were weak and couldn't cope with nature and life would become extinct. However, other species would survive where their neighbours had not. These survivors would then breed and adapt to their surroundings. Darwin also had evidence that could support his theory. The pigeons and finches were his evidence. He studied different species of these birds on the Beagle (his ship). The finches he studied had different shaped beaks, which were adapted for their different food sources. Some are for seeds, they have very thin beaks. Some have parrot beaks for eating nuts. This proves that creatures adapt to their surroundings. Some are equipped for life and some are not.
