... Tareq Al Jamal Sociology 1^st Analysis Looking through this video which mainly represents how much effect can one company have on a city. Flint, Michigan, the birthplace of General Motors. As GM closed 11 plants in Flint and laid off some 30,000 workers in the 1908's. As it shows how tragic this act had an affect on the city and its people. However, this kind of tragic event can be looked upon in different ways. For a very big corporation such as GM closing its plants in all of Flint changed this city and its people. For these workers that lost their jobs it really was a tragic story. As it showed in the film that the man responsible for this whole event is the chairman of GM, Roger Smith, and also the management of the corporation. As true as it is, but for them it is just business.
