Biology essay = The Genetic Code * DNA and RNA are nucleic acids which make up the genetic code. They are polymers of nucleotides. * DNA consists of two polynucleotide strands whereas RNA consists of one polynucleotide strand. * Each nucleotide consists of three molecules joined by condensation reactions, a five-carbon sugar, a phosphoric acid molecule and nitrogen containing organic base. * DNA id s made up of two polynucleotide strands are held together by hydrogen bonding which forms a double helix. * There are four bases found in DNA which are Cytosine, Guanine, Thymine and Adenine, which match according to complementary base pairing, A-T,C-G * The deoxyribose sugar and the phosphate group make up the backbone. * The DNA helix is a store of genetic information controlling the synthesis of proteins and the development and structure of proteins. * DNA is a relatively stable molecule but mutations happen and cause variation.
