Brenna Tyler 11-6-02 Period 1 Position Paper # 2: The Destruction of the Florida Manatee's Habitat Largely due in part of human carelessness, habitats and ecosystems have been and are continuing to be destroyed throughout the planet. With the destruction of a habitat, comes the decline of the life that habitat once supported, possibly severely disrupting many aspects of nature, including the food chain, booms in growth populations, as well as declines in growth populations, or introducing and supporting the spread of illness and disease. Many species home to Florida have been added to the endangered species list because of lost of habitat. The Manatee is one example. They have inhabited the warm waters of Florida for millions of years, and were thought to be mermaids by early explorers. They are from the order, "Sirenia," meaning sirens of the sea. Manatees are large, docile creatures, whose main activities consist of eating, sleeping, and traveling, and...
