IB Physical Geography Fieldwork On Box Hill 1. Introduction During this investigation the question studied will be 'How do slopes and people affect the environment of Box Hill?' so that my null hypothesis would be that vegetation diversity decreases with proximity to human disturbances. The relevance of this study shows the impact of humans on the environment. Box Hill was a suitable site for this investigation. There are 120 hectares of rare chalk grassland on Box Hill, which is on the North Downs in Surrey. The grassland plants are adapted to thin soils, low nutrient levels and fast draining conditions because chalk is highly permeable. Many factors affect the diversity of flora on a slope: soil depth and pH, microclimate, slope angle, infiltration rate, slope aspect, altitude and human influence.
