MICROBIOLOGY PROJECT AIM: Investigate the mean doubling time and growth stages of E-coli APPARATUS NEEDED * 13 petri dishes * Tub with disinfectant water * 23 test tubes * Old T-shirt * Cotton wool and aluminium foil * Test tube racks * Sterile wooden board * Bunsen burner * Inoculating loop * means covered in aluminium foil * L-shaped spreader hence sterile. * Graduated pipette * * Small pipette * * Gloves * Distilled water * Pipette filler * * Measuring cylinder * * China graph pencil * Cello tape * E-coli * Nutrient broth * METHOD Before starting this experiment some initial precautions should be taken: all cuts should be plastered, hair should be tied back, jackets removed and buttoned up. Infection can be caused when bacteria enter the cuts, and hair contains bacteria, which may contaminate the experiment, and obstruct when working if left open. Ensure throughput the experiment that you never place anything down on the work surface (e.g. lid of bacteria) or it may get contaminated...
