Belinda Harpham OSMOSIS Planning Aim: To investigate the effect of different concentrations of sucrose solution on potato tissue and to use our results to find the isotonic point for our experiment. Osmosis is the diffusion of water particles from a more highly concentrated area to a less highly concentrated area of water through a selectively permeable membrane. In osmosis water particles move from hypertonic ( highly concentrated ) areas to hypotonic ( little concentrated ) areas through a selectively permeable or semi permeable membrane. The membrane is what allows the free movement of the water from one side to the other, but no other particles can pass through. This means that the size of the solute particles does not influence osmosis. When the concentration on both sides of the membrane is the same, the net flow of water will cease. When this happens and the solution of water particles and the solute particles are equal it...
