Will changing the amount of catalase added to hydrogen peroxide produce gas at different speeds? Introduction For this coursework I have to investigate an enzyme reaction which is one of the fastest enzyme reactions in nature. The reaction I am investigating is the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide (a poison) by catalase (an enzyme). The resultant products of this reaction are, water (non-poisonous) and oxygen. This is the equation and word equation for the reaction: 2H2O2 2H2O + O2 Hydrogen Peroxide Water + Oxygen For the experiment I will measure the amount of gas produced from the reaction after a certain time. I will repeat this a few times, the independent variable in this experiment will be the amount of catalase used in each experiment. Therefore the dependant variable will be the amount of gas produced. I will make a prediction before the experiment then write up the experiment with my results. Catalase occurs naturally in animals...
