Biology Coursework Planning Variables I have decide to make the concentration of the salt water the independent variable, I will use 5 different concentrations and in one I will use distilled water as a control. I will measure the change in the dependant variables, weight and length. Method I am going to conduct an experiment to investigate the effect of osmosis on a potato. I shall place six pieces of the same potato in six different concentrations of salt water, all the pieces of potato will be made using the same 8mm diameter cork borer and cut down to roughly 4cm with an in this experiment accuracy is not important as it is the change in size that matters in the results. I will record their weight and exact length then place each one in a boiling tube. I will then fill each boiling tube three quarters full of a different concentration of salt...
