Biology Assessed Practical Aim: To investigate the affects of Osmosis and what conditions it best thrives in. Scientific Knowledge: From my current knowledge on osmosis, I know that it is a special type of diffusion; it separates two solutions by a partially permeable membrane which allows movement of water molecules, but not large molecules, like sugar. OSMOSIS is the diffusion of water across a partially permeable membrane from a dilute solution to a more concentrated one. The diagram below shows how osmosis happens. The diagram below is a representation of the experiment which I performed during a preliminary task I performed , which instead of using cells, I used a artificial substitute, which is identical to that of a cell's. this is called VISKING TUBING.
