SC1 Investigation Title: Enzymes in Potatoes Aim: To investigate different amounts of Catalase, an enzyme found in potato cells, reacting with hydrogen peroxide. Variables: * Concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide * Amount of Hydrogen Peroxide * Mass of potato * Surface area of potato * Temperature * pH * How long to leave experiment for I have decided to investigate the surface area of potato as my only variable. I will do this by changing the amount of potato chunks (all of the same size/mass), whilst keeping everything else the same each time to maintain a fair test. Prediction: I feel that the more potato chunks we use, the more oxygen will be produced because Hydrogen Peroxide's formula is H2O2, you can clearly see that Water (H2O) and Oxygen (O2) are the two substances that make up Hydrogen Peroxide - both harmless substances.
