Danielle Brown 10W 18/01/03 Mr. Betraoui Science Investigation Write Up Aim: To find out the effect of temperature on how enzymes work. Equipment: 6 test tubes, pipette, stop watch, bunsen burner, 20ml of amylase, iodine solution, 1 white tile, thermometer and 5% starch solution. Prediction & Reason: Enzymes must have the correct shape to do their job. They are made of proteins, and proteins are very easily affected by heat pH and heavy metal ions. Enzymes change their shape if the temperature or pH changes, so they have to have the right conditions. I think that the enzyme will work best at 40 C as this is body temperature. I think this because that optimum temperature for most natural enzymes is 40 C. If this temperature is exceeded then I think that it will take longer to work because it will not be at the optimum temperature, or it will not work at all because it has become denatured. An...
