THE AIM OF THIS INVESTIGATION WAS TO ANALYSE THE EFFECT THAT DIFFERENT STRENGTHS OF SUGAR SOLUTION HAD ON OSMOSIS. Osmosis is the net movement of water across a selectively permeable membrane from a relatively dilute solution to a relatively concentrated one. PRELIMINARY TESTS: We conducted preliminary tests in order to become familiar to the method we were to use in the final experiment. The results we gathered gave us an idea on the results and their range to enable us to draw appropriate graphs with correct scales. Favoured equipment was chosen, we chose to use a potato dicer instead of a knife to cut the potatoes, because potato dicers cut more accurately. This is done so the main experiment could be set up and completed successfully. The preliminary tests consisted of two tests tubes, one with distilled water in it, which was the control, and one with 20% sugar solution. We...
