GCSE Biology Coursework Zoë Berry 11P To Investigate the Effect of Salt Concentration on Potato Tissue PLANNING Osmosis is the diffusion of water from a dilute to a concentrated solution through a partially permeable membrane. It is useful to plants as it enables water from the soil to pass into the root hair cells. In this experiment osmosis will be used to investigate the effects of different concentrations of salt solutions on the tissue of potato. The independent variable that is being used in the investigation is the concentration of salt solution. The different variables that could be measured are: * Change in mass * Surface area * Volume of solution * Length of potato stick * Volume of potato stick The variable that will be measured in this experiment is the length of the potato stick as it is simple and easy to measure.
