The effect of substrate concentration on the activity of the Enzyme, Catalase Aim To investigate how the concentration of the substrate hydrogen peroxide effects the rate of reaction of the enzyme Catalase. Introduction Enzymes are proteins, which are biological catalysts. They are used to speed up reactions in living organisms. Most enzymes are specific in their action. Most enzymes stop working above about 50 degrees because their active site decomposes when this happens the enzyme is said to be 'denatured'. Enzymes can also be inhibited by substrates that fit into the active site but cant be broken down be the enzyme as the enzyme is not designed to break down that specific substrate. These inhibitors can stop that specific enzyme from breaking down the substrates it is designed to break down. I will be studying the enzyme Catalase, Catalase is an enzyme which breaks down from our body which is a poisonous byproduct of our...
