Have a little read: ... The Effect of pH on Enzyme Activity Plan The Aim Investigate the effect of pH on the speed that catalase (from potato cells) can break down hydrogen peroxide. The Variables The possible input variables are the pH of the buffer used, the amount of potato used, the time left and the amount of hydrogen peroxide used. My possible outcome variable is a large or small amount of froth or gas. The input variable I decided to change was the pH of the buffer and the outcome variable I decided to measure was the amount of froth produced. My control variables that I will keep the same to make the experiment fair are the amount of potato, hydrogen peroxide and buffer used and the time taken for each reading. Prediction My predictions are 'The buffer will slow down the action of the enzyme' and 'The more neutral the buffer the larger amount of froth produced'. Scientific Knowledge Enzymes are catalysts. Catalysts
