Discuss what will happen to the chips in respect to osmosis From the experiment we found that the chips gained mass in water (0 mole/L) and the low sugar concentrations but lost mass in high concentration of sugar. This happened because in higher concentrated sugar solution the water moves out of the potato cell by osmosis and water moves in the potato cell in low concentrated sugar solution. The chips in the water were slightly big and turgid whereas the chips in 0.8 mol/l were soft and flaccid. The chips in the 0.3mol/l were pretty much the same as they were in starting.
