Year 10 Biology Coursework Investigation Introduction Osmosis is the passage of water from a region of high water concentration through a semi-permeable membrane to a region of low water concentration Factors Factors that could affect the rate of osmosis are concentration solute, tissue type, temperature, solute type, surface area, tissue volume and pH. Variables I will investigate the rate of osmosis the tissue of a potato, and I will vary the solute concentration, as it is most practical with the equipment provided for us to use. I will attempt to keep the temperature in which the experiment wil be stored the same, I will keep the sucrose the same, and I will keep the weight and surface area of the potatoes the same.
