Investigation to find the concentration of potato cells using Osmosis Aim To find the concentration of water in potato cells. Osmosis is the net movement of water from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration through a selectively permeable membrane. I'll know when I've found the concentration of water in potato cells when the mass of the potato remains the same before and after the experiment. This is because there would be no net movement of water between the potato and the surrounding solution. When this happens, the solution is said to be isotonic to the potato cells. Preliminary Experiment I used three boiling tubes, each with a different concentration of sucrose solution.
