Jack Drake Investigation to Find out how the Concentration of Sucrose and Water Effects the Weight of a Potato Chip Introduction - Osmosis, Active Transport and Diffusion Particles enter and leave cells by three processes. * Diffusion * Osmosis * Active transport Osmosis Osmosis is simply a special type of diffusion involving the movement of water. Osmosis is the movement of water molecules only, from a high water potential to a region of low water potential, through a semi permeable membrane. A cell membrane, has tiny invisible holes that allow water particles, which are small, to pass through but not sugar particles, which are larger. Active Transport Is the movement of particles from a region of low concentration to a region of high concentration. The cell must provide energy for this process to take place. In active transport, the molecules of a substance move in the reverse direction to normal diffusion. Diffusion Diffusion is the movement of...
