Investigation of the rate of Osmosis through Potato Chips Introduction I am investigating the rate of osmosis through potato chips using a range of concentrated sucrose solution. I will use seven concentrated solutions of varying strength in order to assess their impact on the potato chip. The definition of Osmosis is: "the movement of water molecules across a partially permeable membrane from a region of high water concentration to a region of low water concentration." Quoted from CGP Double Science Biology the Revision Guide Variables The variables that I will be keeping constant are: The Length of the potato chip. The potato chips need to be of identical size because if the chips were different sizes there would be different total surface areas. This would lead to more/less osmosis, as there would be more/less cells in the potato that will actually lose water or gain water. The Volume of the concentrated solution. Each boiling tube...
