Jonathan Woods Investigation into How Different Concentrations of Sugar Solution Affects the Mass of Potato Cells Plan I will investigate how the mass of potato cells is affected when placed in different concentrations of sugar solution. The potato cells will experience a change in mass because of osmosis. Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from a region of higher water concentration to a region of lower water concentration through a partially permeable membrane. This means that if there were a higher water concentration in either the potato or the sugar solution, water will diffuse into the region of lower concentration until equilibrium is reached. I know this theory to be correct because of my secondary sources taken from GCSE Biology by D.G. Mackean.
