Investigation: The effect of the concentration of a solution on the rate of osmosis on a plant tissue Dependent variable:- the change in the weight of the plant tissue, which measures the amount of osmosis that has occurred and therefore the rate. Independent variable:- the concentration of each salt solution. Controlled variables:- the size and weight of the plant tissue used, the mount of water used, the temperature of the water and of the surrounding environment. Prediction I predict that as the concentration of the salt solution increases, above a certain point, the weight of the plant tissue will decrease as the water is leaving the cells by osmosis. But below this point the water will enter the cells by osmosis, as there is a greater concentration inside the cells than in the surrounding solution.
