Investigating the effect of surface area on catalyse activity. Introduction I'm investigating the effect of surface area on catalyse activity. We known the catalyse process takes place on a active site, on the surface of the enzyme molecule. The catalyse breaks down the substrate molecule into the product, after this reaction the enzyme remains the same to carry on breaking down other substrate molecules. The active site has a unique shape only the substrate molecules can fit in. the catalyse process has a optimum operating temperature of about 30?, catalyse enables hydrogen peroxide to be changed into water and oxygen. In my experiment I will be measuring the amount of oxygen given off when different sized pieces of potato are put into a measurement of hydrogen peroxide, to measure the activity of the catalyse on different sized pieces of potato.
