Introduction In this investigation I am aiming to find out what effect the enzyme, catalase, has on the substrate Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2). Catalase is found in our body (In our liver), in yeast and in potatoes. I will use the potato. Catalase breaks down Hydrogen Peroxide into Hydrogen and Oxygen. Prediction I will carry out five different experiments and predict that the following will happen: 0.5cm chip = Very slow reaction. 1 cm chip = Slightly faster reaction. 1.5 cm chip = Faster reaction. 2 cm chip = Quite fast reaction 2.5 cm chip = Very fast reaction. I think that the smaller the chip, the slower the reaction will be, because there is less concentration of the enzyme. The large chips will have a quicker reaction time because there is a larger surface area of chip so there are more of the enzyme active sites available for the substrate to get into.
