Biology Investigating the Effects of Substrate Concentration on Catalyse Aim The aim of this experiment is to see if and/or how changing the concentration of a substrate alters the rate of reaction of an enzyme. Safety For this experiment safety goggles must be warn at all times, hair must be tied back and loose clothing must be tucked in. Hydrogen peroxide is toxic which means: the substance can cause death. It may have effects when swallowed, breathed in or absorbed through the skin. Hydrogen peroxide is also corrosive which means: It can attack and destroy living tissues, including eyes and skin. Prediction I predict that as the concentration of the substrate increases so will the rate of reaction of the enzyme. The rate of reaction will increase up to a certain point and it will then level off because the enzymes can't work any faster. This is because enzymes break up long chains of complex molecules (diagram left)...
